The school accepts enrolment of students between the age of five and eighteen years. Eligibility for enrolment is determined by an educational psychology assessment which measures a student’s IQ. We are a ‘special developmental school’ for children whose IQ score is 50 or below. If you need support with completing your assessments, we can also provide assistance in this area.
There are ‘special schools’, for children whose score on an IQ test is between 50 and 70. We are not a Special School and can not enrol students who are within this score.
Students may also have additional disabilities which affect their vision, hearing, physical capabilities or Autism Spectrum Disorder and Down Syndrome.
Our staff have a wide range of specialised training which includes PEG feeding, emergency epilepsy medication administration, positive behaviour support and functional behaviour analysis.
Group sizes vary between six and eight students in the Primary Learning Area and seven to ten students in the Secondary Learning Area. Each class has one teacher as well as education support staff who work with all the students.
Additional support is provided where required. Our Allied Health Team which consists of a Speech Pathologist, Occupational Therapist and part – time Physiotherapist provide advice and support to all of our students.
The current enrolment is 80 students. Enrolments are determined by meeting the requirements and a priority placement system. Yarraville Special Developmental School is required to have a local enrolment policy. This policy is available to read on our policies page on this website. Transport is only available to students residing in our designated transport area.
